Thubten Wangchen, is a Buddhist monk, founder of the House of Tibet in Barcelona, representative of Tibet in Spain and member of the Tibetan Parliament in exile, where he represents Europe.


Born in Kyirong (Tibet) he had to immigrate to Kathmandu, crossing the Himalayas, when the Chinese invaded Tibet in October 1950. Later he lived in India, where he was a beggar for many years to survive, until the Indian government took him in and educated in his culture of origin, as an exile.

At the age of sixteen, he entered a Buddhist monastery for the first time, attracted by the spirituality of his religion. Among others, he has lived in the Namgyal monastery, where he lived for eleven years with HH the Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso.

He traveled to Spain for the first time in 1981, accompanying HH the Dalai Lama, organizing various conferences and seminars on Tibetan culture and history. To make Tibetan Buddhism known and at the direction and advice of His Holiness the Dalai Lama founded the House of Tibet in Barcelona, inaugurated in December 1994 by Tenzin Gyatso himself.
